Matching with a Surrogate

Matching with a Surrogate

While some couples or individuals may try to find Surrogates on their own, either through advertisements or close friends and families, using a reputable agency offers the benefit of experience and guidance throughout the process. Agencies understand the complexities of the process as many of their staff have been in your shoes.

Surrogates will undergo thorough screening entailing medical and psychological exams to ensure that they are completely ready to commit to helping Intended Parents start their family. After screenings have been completed, a Surrogate will complete a profile in which they will touch on the questions below:

  • Would you like to match with a couple who is located in the United States or abroad?
  • Are you interested in working with a same-sex couple?
  • What is your stance on selective reduction?
  • Are you willing to transfer multiple embryos?

These are important questions to consider, not only for the Surrogate, but also for the Intended Parents to consider while going through a surrogacy journey. For example, some Surrogates may want to have frequent in-person meetings with their Intended Parents during the pregnancy, in which case, matching with international Intended Parents would not be a great fit.

Once their own profile is completed, Surrogates will be presented with profiles of Intended Parents who meet their criteria. If they decide that they would like to move forward, the Surrogate’s profile is then shared with the Intended Parents.

If both agree that they’d like to learn more about each other, a member of your agency’s team will facilitate a video conference or in-person interview, depending on the location of the Intended Parents and Surrogate.

It’s important to come to your match meeting prepared with any questions you would like the other party to address prior to moving forward. The ultimate goal of the meeting is for both the Intended Parents and the Surrogate to walk away knowing whether or not the other is an ideal match.

If, for any reason, it’s not a good match, the search will continue on both sides until a true match is found. On the other hand, if both sides are satisfied, the surrogacy process can continue to progress with the aid of your agency.
